The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

★★★★★

poster

This is easily my favorite movie of all time (well at least since 2017). I have a certain taste in entertainment. I like something that doesn't take itself seriously. I like something that is goofy. I like something that still tells a good story. I like entertainment that also rewards fans of certain genres with some fun little things if you know what to look for. The Lego Batman Movie ticks all the boxes for me. I remember seeing this in the theater when it first came out. I was in love. Batman is my favorite comic book character, and I thought this movie played the perfect homage to Batman and his rich history not only in movies and television but also the comics as well with the fun nod to all the Batman villains throughout the years. The movie is ridiculously good for someone like me. I've probably watched this movie multiple times over the years, but its probably been a couple of years since I last watched it. It popped up on one of my feeds recently, and I knew I had to watch it again. Still love it. Will always love it.

How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

★★★★½

I'm glad they stuck to the original story. I felt some of the elements didn't translate to a live action that well, but it was still good.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (2024)

★★★★

poster

I found out about this movie after it left my local theaters, so I never got the chance to see it in a theater. I was happy to see it pop up on Max, so I gave it a watch. It's pretty good for a modern Looney Tunes movie. I had some good laughs especially the severely under-animated Farmer Jim. I also liked the twist at the end with the villain of the movie.

Robin Hood (1973)

★★★★★

poster

I did not have watching Disney’s Robin Hood on my radar this year but here we are. I had a day where the song Oo-De-Lally got stuck in my head from the movie. It was random. Just appeared. I kept humming it off and on while doing housework. It got to the point where I was like, why am I humming this song. I haven’t seen Robin Hood in at least 20 years., so I decided to do what any person does in this situation. I searched for it on Disney Plus and watched it. Let me start by saying this movie is still a good watch even if it is 52 years old this year. The music is catchy (obviously) and the characters are entertaining. While I like Robin Hood and Little John, my favorite character is Lady Cluck. She provides good laughs. The “football” scene with Lady Cluck is just as entertaining as I remember.

Man of Steel (2013)

★★½

poster

I remember wanting to see this movie when it first came out in theaters, but back then I wasn't into going to the theater very often, and I don't know why I never really watched it after it was released digitally but I didn't. I hopped onto Max today with the intent to find a movie to watch. Batman vs Superman popped up, and I thought now would be a good time to give Man of Steel a go and then check out Batman Vs Superman after. Here is my quick recap: Look Krypton. We are all powerful and have all this technology and exist on thousands of planets yet somehow we are dying off because of resource mining on the main planet. Send off the baby. Now we die. Oh, bad Kryptonians were sent off Krypton to a prison ship. This is important for later. Look Clark is growing up and not fitting in. Oh no. Clark's dad died. Wait ... really?! Why would you do that! Now Clark is a man and still not fitting in, but he likes to help where he can. Hey look, a reporter lady figured out he was an alien. Then the bad Kryptonians somehow survive while the rest of them die and find Earth. They want Kal-El. He gives himself up. Also General Zod wants Lois Lane too for some reason? Did I miss why she was important to Kryptonians? Anyway, Clark finds out that General Zod wants to take over earth and create a new Krypton. That's when the takeover of earth starts along with fighting and destruction begins and boy is there a lot of destruction. I honestly don't know how I feel about Man of Steel. It was more of an alien invasion story than an actual Superman movie and that made me sad.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025)

★★★★

poster

I've really enjoyed the Mission Impossible movies over the years. This one was a really good sendoff for Ethan Hunt and team. I always expect over the top sequences that don't make a whole lot of sense and this amazing ability for 15 minutes to last 45 like the last quarter of a basketball game. I think it is pretty funny that the main villain was an AI trying to take over all the nuclear weapon systems across the world and then use those nuclear weapons to destroy the world. I never did figure out what the AI gets out of it. They said something about it lasting forever in some data storage place in South Africa until it can get out in the future somehow, but that didn't make a lot of sense to me, but hey, it's an impossible mission so what do I know. I still enjoyed the movie because I'm a sucker for stuff like this. I've learned if I don't try to overthink it then it works out. I am glad I got to see this one in the theater. I never saw the previous seven in a theater. I saw them later. Seeing it on the big screen is a lot of fun.

I haven't seen the Incredibles in ages. I was listening to a podcast where they talked about it, and I thought it would be good to give it a watch again. I forgot how good it is.

Barbie (2023)

★★★★½

poster

I never saw Barbie in the movie theater. I remember seeing trailers for this movie and thinking it looked like something I would enjoy. I am the type of person that enjoys movies that are just ridiculous. I finally decided to watch it, and I was right. I thought it was so bad that it was good. I had a lot of good laughs.

Bullet Train (2022)

★★★★

poster

I decided to give this one a watch thinking it was a different movie (Bullet Train Explosion). Imagine my surprise when it ended up being this movie. I didn't know what to think because this movie is so over the top with the characters and all these assassins ending up on the same train for some reason. I found myself enjoying the silliness and absurdity of it. Action is pretty good too. I love that the so called unlucky guy ends up being the luckiest one on the train. Dumb movie. Love it.

Future Shock (2016)

★★★★½

poster

I got this book in an ebook bundle on Humble Bundle some years back and decided to finally give it a read. I am a sucker for thrillers that include time travel, so I had a sneaky suspicion that I would enjoy this one, and I did! The story focuses on a group of five teens being sent into the future to bring back information for a big tech corporation. They are specifically told not to look up information about themselves, so they do what any teenager would do with that type of rule: they looked up information about themselves. That's when everything goes crazy. It was a very easy read for me. The action in the book kept me interested. And of course, I had to know if they were going to be able to stop the future events from happening when they got back to the past. Very fun!

Lilo & Stitch (2025)

The movie was pretty good. I enjoyed it. The original is better, but I think that is how most of the Disney live action remakes go.
